  PETROGENESIS

  Onyx belongs to the chemical sedimentary stone class, which genesis is related with hot springs lime-containing. Always young deposits, with two million years (from the Quaternary period). The basic structure of this slightly transparent stone consists of the mineral aragonite, a special kind of the calcium carbonate with needle-like crystals. Almost pure layers alternate with layers colored by different chromophores. Depending on the embedded metal oxides, blue, green, honey yellow, as well as colorful banded types, are also available on nature.

   

  CARE AND MAINTENANCE

  All onyx has naturally occurring cracks and fissures, it is a fragile material and is expected to see manufacture repairs. It is also highly sensitive to acids, that could etching the surface when exposed to acidic foods such as lemons or tomatoes. By that reason is recommended to be sealed regularly. It must be clean with non-abrasive cloth or sponge with mild soap and warm water.
